[INQ. NO. 2308M33] An autonomous driving kit, introduced by GINT Co., Ltd., that converts a regular tractor into a self-driving tractor attracted the attention of visitors at the Agri & Food Tech Start-up Rising Expo 2023.
By attaching the main controller on the roof and replacing the existing steering wheel with a dedicated steering wheel, the self-driving tractor is completed. Self-driving tractors receive GPS location information and operate the steering wheel to go straight and carry out work.
‘Go straight’ is an important feature in agriculture. Tractors perform various tasks such as plowing, covering, digging, and making furrows. If tractors do not go straight, the cultivated area will be reduced accordingly.
A spokesperson for GINT explained “To work across uneven paddy fields, you have to grip the steering wheel tightly, which is very tiring, and an average error of about 21cm occurs even for experienced drivers. However, self-driving tractors go straight on their own, identifying up to 1cm, and thus enabling more farming in a limited area.”
GINT manufactured the tractors in the form of a remodeled kit rather than a finished vehicle – in order to increase accessibility. According to the company, autonomous tractors are expected to reduce the losses generated by the operation of existing general tractors, especially in comparatively small farmlands.
“GINT focuses on increasing efficiency and creating added value to traditional means of transportation and production equipment – agricultural machinery including tractors, construction equipment, and even automobiles. It is our role to help all customers with GINT focus on a higher level of activity,” explained the president of the company.”
