Construction equipment electrification solution startup ELLECT Co., Ltd. introduced an excavator electrification module at the ‘2024 Smart Construction Expo.’ If the weight at the back of the excavator is removed and the electrification module is installed, an electric-diesel hybrid excavator is created.
“The hydraulic pump that moves the excavator is operated by an electric motor instead of a diesel engine. It can help reduce the carbon emissions of construction equipment, while also significantly reducing fuel costs,” explained the company’s CEO.
Although major construction equipment companies have released battery-equipped electric excavators on the market, they have been criticized for being too expensive and having a short usage time. The company explained that they have increased the usage time by connecting wires instead of installing batteries.
“Excavators equipped with batteries cannot yet solve the problems of movement, charging, and limited operation time. Construction equipment does not usually move much on site, so it can be used sufficiently with a wired method,” the CEO of the company remarked.

The company is targeting sites where engine failures occur frequently due to the generation of a lot of dust, such as waste disposal and metal scrap, as well as sites where exhaust gas management is required, such as tunnels and underground construction sites.
The company plans to add battery packs to the module in the future, steadily preparing for entering overseas markets.
Lastly, the CEO of the company added, “We plan to release an electrified module that can use the wired method, battery, and diesel engines in the first half of next year. We will continue to improve system efficiency and user convenience, and then we will also make full-fledged advances into the European market.”
