The Seoul Motor Show is a biennial motor show where domestic and foreign auto makers showcase their latest models that are either in production or at the R&D stage as well as new technologies for future models. The Seoul Motor Show dates back to 1995 and it is Korea’s only international motor show that has won the OICA( Organisation Internationale des Constructeurs d’Automobiles) accreditation.

The 2013 show will be the 9th event of the Seoul Motor Show. The Show, which was designated by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy as one of the top global exhibitions, has evolved into a major and well renowned exhibition held in Korea. Furthermore, it seems to be on the right track for joining the ranks of other top motor shows such as the Frankfurt Motor Show, the Paris Motor Show, the North American International Auto Show and the Tokyo Motor Show.

Under the theme of “With nature, for the people”, passenger cars, commercial vehicles, two-wheeled vehicles, bicycles, auto parts and other related devices will be on display at the exhibition. The 9th Seoul Motor Show will offer visitors a rare opportunity to have a panoramic view of the ongoing trend of the global auto market and new auto technologies. In sync with an increasing focus on low-carbon and green growth around the world, an array of eco-friendly, highefficiency, energy-saving small cars, hybrid vehicles, fuel cell vehicles (FCVs) and electric vehicles (EVs) will be displayed to stimulate public interest in the ‘green vehicle’ trend.

A variety of peripheral programs are also in the wings to entertain visitors: by lottery, a car and a bicycle will be randomly awarded to visitors each day. To better serve the forecasted 1.2 million visitors at the Seoul Motor Show 2013, there are a slew of programs in the pipeline such as a Telematics International Seminar, the Best Car made by College Students program, an Automotive Design Competition for College Students, the Most Popular Car Award, UCC Contests and Test-driving for Eco friendly Cars.

Wi-a started delivering its rubbing equipment in 2005 to a local conglomerate in the field and also begun supplying them to Chinese companies since 2007. The maker has finally tapped the Japanese market in 2011 with its rubbing products.

It has obtained ISO 9001/14000 certifications and also a certification regarding its environmental management system, thus obtaining assurance of its technological reliability from global markets.

In 2011, at time when the country has first historically made its US$1 trillion mark in trade volume, the company has seen its export volume reach over US$100 million contributing to the nation’s remarkable entire export growth to over $50 million.

Wi-a plans to advance into the global market with its internationally competitive smart surveillance system. Now four kinds of products are presented aiming at enlarging their global presence.

A. WNVS-GATE System

Wi-a’s WNVS-GATE system is called the world’s first commercial eye safety range-gated night surveillance system. This system is effective even in inclement weather(fog, snow, rain) conditions in both short and long range. The long-range object identification in the dark without any light (0 lux) is available. Object tracking the identified object by using pan/tilt control technique is possible. In comparison with TOD, a clear image realization, economical maintenance and repair are ensured.

B. WNVS-1K System

This WNVS-1K supports short/long range object identification and surveillance by using the invisible IR CW laser. It has capability to control a device at a remote
location and transmit the image via a protocol of networks. With this system, object tracking of the identified object is available by using pan/tile control technique. The long-range object identification in the dark without any light (0 lux) is available. This system is safe to humans as it utilizes the so-called “Eye Safety” laser.

C. WNVS-300M System

This WNVS-300M system ensures short-range object identification and surveillance by using the invisible IR CW laser. The short-range object identification in the dark without any light(0 lux) is available. The capability to control a device at a remote place and transmit the image is possible by using a communication protocol of networks. This system is safe to humans as it utilizes the so-called “Eye Safety” laser. This system is capable of taking a photograph and recoding an important moment in person utilizing an equipped a battery and memory card.

Korean Automotives’ Impressive Presence in the U.S. Market

South Korea’s car makers are establishing an impressive presence in the North American car market amid cut-throat competition with their Japanese rivals. Among them, Hyundai-Kia’s performance is most prominent.

The global leading carmaker Hyundai-Kia has ranked first in the sub-compact, compact and mid-size car markets for the second consecutive month in the United States in July. Hyundai-Kia has topped the U.S. sub-compact car market for four consecutive months in terms of sales volume by selling 8,903 sub-compact cars, according to reliable automotive data providers. It sold 34,791 compact cars in July, claiming the top position in the US compact car market for the January-July period this year. In the U.S. midsize car market, Hyundai-Kia outperformed its Japanese rival Toyota for the second month by selling 34,295 cars.

Hyundai-Kia’s feat in the U.S. is meaningful in that it was achieved as sales of its Japanese rivals including Toyota, Honda, and Nissan started bouncing back from sluggish performance induced by a great earthquake in Japan.

The nation’s vehicles production in July 2012 decreased by 9.2% compared with a year before to 355,627 units due to partial strikes in major makers coupled with reduced operating days. The growth pace has slowed for the year-to-date production, with only a 1.5% growth producing 2,735,943 vehicles.

Despite new model introduction such as New Santa Fe and K9, domestic sales in July 2012 shrank 4.6% at 122,086 units, owing to worrying global economy by financial crisis in Euro zone and contracted consumer confidence. Home sales during the first seven months fell by 5.8% year-on-year registering 817,202 units.

Exports in July drop by 10.4% shipping 238,824 units under the rising uncertainty over the global economy by financial turbulence in EU and supply shortage by makers’ strikes. Year-to-date exports recorded 1,939,576 vehicles with a 7.3% rise over a year earlier.

Amidst of the fierce competition in the U.S. auto market recently started making its solid form for all South Korean auto makers and auto part manufacturing companies with global rivals including some Japanese car makers completing their warreadiness against Korean counterparts, South Korean auto part manufacturers are scheduled to participated in the upcoming AAPEX 2012, where Korean companies are to examine the possible expansion of their presence in the market. Arranged by KOTRA, this year Korean booths are expected to deliver excellent business results.
