Portable Small-sized Desalination Machine

[INQ. NO. 2405M01] A portable small desalination machine that can produce fresh water with a small amount of power in underdeveloped countries was introduced at the 2024 World IT Show.
According to the CEO of Solarinno, the capacitive deionization (CDI) type of portable desalination device was developed to be carried and used by NGOs and international cooperation organizations working in underdeveloped countries.
The CDI device features technology that removes salt from salty water by using electricity. The sodium and chlorine ions in the salt water are moved to the negative and positive electrodes, respectively, so that only fresh water ultimately escapes. It ensures higher energy efficiency than existing filter or distillation-based desalination technologies.
Currently, the multi-stage distillation method, which desalinizes seawater by turning it into steam, and the reverse osmosis method, which uses a separation membrane to obtain pure water, require a lot of cost for operation and installation and have low energy efficiency.

The CEO continued, “It is a method of creating fresh water by adsorbing ions using electrical attraction, but the power consumption is low. With power consumption of 50 watts (W), approximately one ton (t) of fresh water can be produced per day.” This is similar to the power consumption of an incandescent light bulb (40~100W) or an electric fan (45~60W).
“Even small-sized solar panels can work,” he added, “We received a positive response at WETEX, an environmental technology exhibition, held in Dubai last year, and at this year’s CES in the USA ― and we are looking for sponsors such as large corporations and international cooperation organizations who will work with us as an aid business concept.”
The CEO concluded by saying, “Even if we cannot find a sponsor, we will proceed with the project focusing on technology development,” adding, “We plan to start mass production in the second half of this year at the latest and supply to underdeveloped countries such as Senegal, Kenya, and Ethiopia.”

TWINNY recently announced that it has developed ‘Nargo Factory,’ a low-rise self-driving logistics transport robot that can be customized for each work environment.
Nargo Factory’s feature is that the upper module is designed to be easily changed to fit the application, such as pickup, transport/loading of parts, and delivery of finished products. It can be used for various tasks within manufacturing plants and logistics companies in various forms such as robot arms, conveyor belts, rolltainers, and lift attachments.
Through 2D LiDAR sensors, ToF (Time of Flight) sensors, and depth cameras, workers and obstacles are quickly detected, collisions are prevented, and safety is improved.
A spokesperson for the company explained, “We are expecting that the robot will contribute to resolving labor problems — such as labor costs, employee retirement pension burdens, and exodus of personnel — and can help improve productivity by increasing work speed.

TWINNY plans to expand its factory automation market through Nargo Factory. As part of these efforts, the company made its debut at ‘Smart Factory + Automation World 2024,’ which was held at COEX in Seoul, in March. In addition, its goal is to discover partners who can distribute robots and promote product distribution at a rapid pace.
The company’s spokesperson added, “To utilize robots in any type of factory, customization to suit usability is essential. This is the background to the development of Nargo Factory. Dynamic Information System for Cooperative Autonomous Driving

WAYS1’s solution LDM2X attracts attention as the first example of a cooperative autonomous driving solution designated as an excellent research and development innovation product in recognition of its innovation and public concern.
In order to overcome the limitations of self-driving cars that currently rely only on their own sensors, LDM2X accurately maps real-time dynamic object information collected from traffic infrastructure such as CCTV and traffic lights on roads, and creates it into the standard messages required for self-driving cars.
In addition, LDM2X can be directly applied not only to autonomous driving, but also to the overall C-ITS, including ITS advancement, smart intersections, and child protection zone control. This is attributable to the result of satisfying the low-latency performance with an edge computing method that performs data processing and analysis at the road site.
In addition, WAYS1 introduced LDM2X for the first time at this year’s Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas. 3D Optical Tomography Imaging Inspection Equipment

[INQ. NO. 2401M01] The ‘Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)’ technology used in the medical field has been expanded to industrial use. This technology identifies defects by penetrating inside the semiconductor and display.
MVTech Co., Ltd., a machine vision company, introduced its ‘3D optical tomographic inspection equipment’ at the recently held 2023 Korea Industrial Technology R&D Expo.
OCT is technology that obtains high-resolution tomography images by using the time difference of the reflected light transmitted. A spokesperson for the company explained, “We acquire images using the different properties of the index of refraction of reflection and transmission according to the wavelength of light.” Like an X-ray, it can penetrate inside the product to inspect cracks, foreign substances, scratches, coating thickness, etc., and find defects in mobile phone displays or semiconductor wafers.

Even microscopic defects are fatal in high-tech components such as semiconductors and displays. In general, X-rays were used in the production process to read, but the use of radiation was dangerous and had low resolution.
MVTech’s 3D optical tomography imaging inspection equipment acquires high-definition images up to 2.5μm (micrometer). The tomographic image can be reconstructed in 3D and viewed at a glance.

This equipment can penetrate any surface to accurately determine the size and thickness of materials in each layer, and also detect internal defects. This product can be connected to existing inspection processes to identify defective products and take action.
A spokesperson for the company commented, “It is not yet in the commercialization stage, but we have completed development and are reviewing the technology with major companies,” adding, “It is suitable for inspection of transparent and translucent materials that allow light to pass through, so we are approaching it as equipment specialized for semiconductors and displays.”

Fire-Spread-Prevention Insulating Material

Twinny recently launched a new product, ‘NarGo Delivery,’ which can be used to deliver food and beverages and small parcels to customers in high-rise buildings such as smart offices, officetels, and residential-commercial complex apartments.

This new product calls an elevator through communication and remotely controls the target floor so that it can be used in high-rise buildings. Using SLAM technology and 3D LiDar sensors, it avoids obstacles on its own in a wide and complex environment and drives smoothly to its destination.

It can be used immediately in existing buildings without building separate infrastructure such as QR code or UWB. A safe and accurate delivery service is possible through arrival information and real-time location information through a mobile phone app. The loading box is designed to carry items weighing up to 30kg.

Twinny is expected to receive positive responses from companies and public institutions with offices in high-rise buildings due to its ability to reduce repetitive tasks, save time, and protect privacy through non-face-to-face delivery. To this end, its discussions are underway with company A, which develops and operates the platform.
