Microcrystalline wax, as produced by SJ Chemical, is primarily composed of N-paraffinic hydrocarbons, along with smaller quantities of iso-paraffinic, naphthenic, and aromatic hydrocarbons. These waxes typically feature hydrocarbons with carbon numbers ranging from 31 to 50. Commercial microcrystalline wax from SJ Chemical boasts a molecular weight between 450 and 700. It presents as light yellow crystals and is notable for its higher melting point and viscosity compared to traditional paraffin wax.

SJ Chemical’s product specifications for their microcrystalline waxes highlight their superior properties. The WX-160S has a drop melting point ranging from 66 to 75 °C and an oil content of up to 10%. The WX-170S offers an even higher drop melting point of 76 to 85 °C and lower oil content, capped at 5%. Both grades exhibit a color maximum of 2.5 (ASTM D-1500) and a specific gravity between 0.84 and 0.87 at 15/4 °C (ASTM D-1298). They also boast a flash point of 200 °C (ASTM D-92). Penetration and Kinematic Viscosity are reported for both products.

These versatile microcrystalline waxes find extensive applications across various industries. They are utilized in products such as petroleum jelly (Vaseline), insulators, lubricants, and paper coatings. Additionally, they are key ingredients in container candles, compound waxes, and for water/damp-proofing applications. SJ Chemical’s microcrystalline waxes are packaged in 25 kg bags.
