In 1988, KumhoPolychem adopted advanced technology from Exxon Chemical (US) to lay the foundations for growth into a joint venture of international competitiveness. KumhoPolychem, located in Yeosu Petrochemical Complex, was the country’s first EPDM manufacturer, starting with a capacity of 10,000 metric tons per year in 1987, and first expanded to 20,000 metric tons per year in 1989.
The company is completed the 3rd expansion successfully with the “ultra-low temperature polymerization technology”, developed by its own technology for the first time in the world, and the company is the EPDM manufacturer with a capacity of 95,000 metric tons per year, the top in Asia and the 4th in the world.
Based on the technology and know-how accumulated through strategic alliances with the world’s most advanced chemical companies and continuous R&D investment, KumhoPolychem strives to produce high-quality products that satisfy diverse customer needs.
The Ethylene-Propylene based rubber(EP(D)M) produced by KumhoPolychem is highly functional and special synthetic rubber that is mainly used in automobile parts, offering outstanding heat resistance, ozone resistance and chemical resistance.Compared to other synthetic rubbers, it has low density and allows high loading compounds to offer advanced economic efficiency. Its wide range of applications in daily life includes automotive body sealings, tire tubes, hoses, electrical wires and cables, construction materials, etc.
