Centered on four exports items: computers (SSD), wireless communications, automobiles, and bio-health
Last month’s exports amounted to $52.6 billion, up 1% year-on-year. Among the 15 major export items, exports of four items increased – including computers (SSD), wireless communications, automobiles, and bio-health.
Exports of semiconductors decreased by 3% year-on-year to $9.6 billion. They had been increasing year-on-year for 15 consecutive months until January, but turned downward for the first time in 16 months. High value-added products such as high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and DDR5 showed good performance, but the fixed prices of general-purpose memory such as DDR4 and NAND fell sharply.

Computer exports increased 28.5% year-on-year to $800 million, increasing for the 14th consecutive month. Moreover, wireless communications devices increased 42.3% year-on-year to $1.5 billion.
Automobile exports increased 17.8% year-on-year to $6.1 billion, rebounding for the first time in four months. This was due to the exports of hybrid cars increasing by more than 50% year-on-year. Bio-health’s exports were recorded at $1.4 billion, up 16.1% year-on-year.
Petroleum’s products recorded $3.9 billion, down 12.2% year-on-year. This is because the international product prices of gasoline and diesel fell by more than 10% year-on-year.
By region, exports increased in four out of nine major markets, including the United States. Exports to the USA increased 1% year-on-year to $9.9 billion. Exports to China decreased 1.4% over the same period to $9.5 billion. However, exports of wireless communication devices and general machinery showed a favorable trend, partially offsetting the slowdown in semiconductor exports.
Exports to ASEAN increased in both semiconductors and petroleum products, the two largest export items. Exports increased 12.6% year-on-year to $9.6 billion, the second largest amount ever for February.
Korean exporters are seeking to achieve expanded export results, and auto parts manufacturers are striving to elevate their presence in global markets.
