Jirisan Mt.

The residence of an enlightened monk is called Bangjang in Buddhism. Taking the profound meaning, this mountain is also called Bangjangsan.

jirisab-mt_1 Jirisan National Park designated on Dec. 29, 1967 was the first national park in Korea. It spans 3 provinces, 5 cities and counties and 15 eups and myeons including Hadong-gun, Sancheong-gun, and Hamyanggun in Gyeongsangnam-do and Gurye-gun in Jeollanam-do and Namwon-si in Jellabuk-do. Its area is 440.517km2 or 130 million pyeong(traditional Korean area measurement unit).

jirisab-mt_2 Jirisan is considered one of three spiritual mountains of Korea, with Geumgangsan and Hallasan being the other two. It is the south mountain of five Silla mountains.

It is said that ‘when a stupid person stays in Jirisan, that person becomes a wise person’, thus the mountain got the name Jirisan, meaning knowing the difference. It is also called Duryusan because the mountain ranges starting from Baekdusan continued through the Korean peninsula and reached here.

It is 7 times the size of Gyeryongsan National Park and 52 times the size of Yeouido. Of the 20 national parks, this is the largest park on land. Jirisan has about 20 of over 1000m high peaks and passes. 10 major peaks include Cheonwangbong(1,915.4m), the second highest peak in South Korea, Jeseokbong(1,806m), Banyabong(1,732m), and Nogodan(1,507m). The main ridge from Cheonwangbong to Nogodan is about 25.5km or 60 ri(traditional Korean distance measurement unit equivalent).

Its perimeter is 320km or 800ri. Natural beauties created by many valleys and waterfalls have brought its reputation as one of the most magnificent mountains in Korea.

The valleys and waterfalls include Chilseon valley started from Cheonwangbong, Baemsagol valley, Daewonsa valley, Bulil fall, Guryong fall, and Yongchu fall.

Many major temples including Hwaeomsa, Ssanggyesa, Yeongoksa, Daewonsa, and Silsangsa, and small temples, and many cultural relics prove that this mountain is the home of Korean Buddhism. Jirisan is a mountain of life, home to many plants, animals, and people.

jirisab-mt_3 The water sprung from Jirisan forms the Deokcheongang, Eomcheongang, and Hwangcheongang.

And the number of spirngs, observation decks, and named rocks are more than 50. Many legends including the legends of Mayago and Banyadosa, and Hoya and Yeonjin are related to Jirisan.

A record shows that there used to be over 350 big and small temples in Jirisan.

Without taking into account the 7 national treasures, 26 treasures, and numerous local cultural assets, historic sites, and cultural material in the mountai, the mountain itself is majestic.

1408M02_2 Operators can secure piping integrity on the basis of prediction of vulnerable points and countermeasures. It is possible to secure piping integrity on the basis of predicting vulnerable points and countermeasures through comparative analyses between measured displacement acquired from the 3-D displacement measuring instrument and initially designed displacement.

1408M02_3 By minimizing the access of workers to high places, the solution reduces the occurrence of safety accidents in advance. Most piping support devices are installed in danger areas such as high places or hot places where maintenance checks are not easy and there is quite a high possibility of safety accidents, so that such accidents may be prevented by checking hangers through IP cameras.

S. Korea’s trends of exports & imports for May 2014

Korea’s exports for May 2014 amounted to US$47.9 billion, a year-on-year decreased of 0.9%, and the nation’s imports during the same month reached at US$42.5 billion, a year-on-year increase of 0.3%. The trade surplus was US$5.3 billion, marking a 28th consecutive month of surplus.

Although the daily average exports reached US$2.23 billion, the second highest in Korea’s history, the export amount decreased slightly due to a reduction in operating days.

Exports of ships and oil products grew, and exports to the EU and the USA were robust. While exports of ships (growth of deliveries of offshore plants), steel (robust exports of hot rolled steel sheet, a key export item) and oil products (increase in unit price for exports) grew, there was a decline in the exports of cars, semiconductors (fewer operating days), LCDs (decline in panel unit price) and mobile devices (base effect and inventory accumulation in Europe and China) declined.

Inspired by recovered economies in some advanced nations, exports to the EU (growth of capital goods including IT parts) and the USA (robust exports of durable goods including cars and raw materials including steel and oil products) grew, while there was a decline in exports to China (weak exports of raw materials including oil products and general machinery) and ASEAN (weak exports of capital goods including ships and general machinery, and the political uncertainty in Thailand).

Exports to Japan, which had grown for two consecutive months thanks to the base effect, began to decline due to weak exports of capital goods. Meanwhile, imports of commodities increased, while imports of raw materials and capital goods decreased.

Of the five raw materials, imports of oil products (increase of heavy oil imports due to operation of the advanced equipment) and steel increased, while imports of crude oil (regular maintenance of facilities) and gases decreased.

Imports of capital goods such as industrial machinery and car parts increased, while imports of semiconductors and equipment for semiconductor manufacturing decreased. Of the commodities, imports of cars are continuously growing. As a result, the daily average exports for May were the second highest in Korea’s history, and the daily average exports from January to May (US$2.11 billion) increased by 4.4%, causing Korean exports to steadily grow.

The export amount, however, decreased slightly in May due to a reduction in operating days (1.5days) and the voluntary holiday of May 2. It is expected that Korea will continuously expand exports given the recovery of the advanced economies, including the USA and the EU.

Fifty thousand visitors attend world’s packaging exhibition ‘Korea Pack 2014’!

The 19th Korea International Packaging Exhibition received plenty of employees who thrive on the packaging industry. Running from 10th to 13th, this year’s exhibition broke records in three aspects: the number of exhibiting companies; the exhibit area; and the number of visitors.
