[INQ. NO. 2210M11] To ensure efficient hydrogen mobility and the operation of hydrogen fuel cell power generators, stable storage and supply of hydrogen is most important.
Existing methods of storing hydrogen include high-pressure hydrogen storage systems and liquid-hydrogen storage systems, both of which have their own merits and demerits.
Hydrolux Inc. has developed a solid hydrogen storage system based on the technology used to manufacture a low-pressure and high-capacity hydrogen storage alloy that can reduce storage space while increasing safety — unlike the existing methods.
To put it simply, the company’s technology works in very much the same way as a sponge does. When a sponge is immersed in water, it absorbs water while not changing its shape. As such, the sponge is like the hydrogen storage alloy, and the water is like hydrogen. This method has the advantage of increasing the hydrogen-storage capacity, thus providing better mobility, and being safer than the existing ones.
Boasting larger hydrogen storage capacity than other types
The company’s Mg-based hybrid hydrogen storage alloy boasts larger hydrogen storage capacity than the other types of hydrogen storage alloys. It does not require high-pressure containers or a single container. No separate equipment is thus needed to covert or compress the substance for its storage, and it is thus possible to store hydrogen for a long time.
Established in June 2021, Hydrolux attracted its first investments in POSCO Idea Marketplace within just three months after its founding, and completed SeriesA funding worth KRW 6.1billion by last May. Accordingly, many of the relevant industries have good perceptions on the vision of Hydrolux. In particular, Japanese companies have shown a lot of interest.
“We are planning to utilize our own solid-hydrogen storage method and provide various hydrogen-storage systems for different usages and mobilities. We will eventually create a business model that encompasses the entire hydrogen-distribution process, from production to provision” explained the CEO of Hydrolux.
